In my recent post
on the Nile Boat Races
of the 1970s and early 1980s,
I was rather dubious
about some of the attempts
by the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism
to draw parallels between modern rowing races
and those allegedly held in Ancient Egypt.

you may wonder whether
James Cook and his crew
have just stepped ashore
somewhere on their voyage.
The table is set, clothes are hung
and the cat is slumbering.
