Surprise boat encounters

can happen anywhere along the Canal.

One of my bigger surprises was

rising to the top of lock E-19 a few years ago

and seeing Draken Harald Hårfagre

waiting for the lock to clear before heading eastbound.

Vikings!  Eastbound in central New York!  Who knew?
