Historic Location

Set on the site on the submarine service’s 20th century base

on the Gosport side of Portsmouth Harbour,

the museum is home to the Royal Navy’s very first submarine, Holland 1,

launched in 1901 and recognised as a marvel of engineering.

Discover the only remaining WW2 era British ocean going submarine, the mighty HMS Alliance,

and midget submarine, X24.

Explore our galleries to find out the thrilling stories of the heroes who have served in submarines.

This family-friendly museum has working periscopes,
hands-on interactive games,
the «Horrible Science of Submarines» exhibition,
and a brand new family play centre «Busy Boat Bay».

Complete your visit with a frothy coffee and a sticky cake overlooking the harbour.
