Re: Parallel action video with LHB ADI Shatabdi - Oct. 16, 2009
You know that I am always complaining about how easy it is to make a five-star video in India. You just go to some convenient spot and film the first express that happens to pass nearby, and that is it. Indian trains are spectacular. They are a delight to see when stationary, they are amazing at any speed, and the fastest ones are a world-class wonder. It is definitely unfair, because we will be unable to match this abroad until Brunel's next reincarnation.
Now this one is... it is even better. Our friend Tandelbaba was travelling with his camera in a local, and he started filming an express that was supposed to be overtaking them in a parallel track. For a whole glorious minute both trains run at the same speed, then the express Pilot decides to kick it up a bit, your adrenaline was already running high and it soars... A delight to watch.
I like Indian Railways no end.

Railway Gauges in India - IRFCA
Q. What is Project Unigauge?
Historically, India has had many different railway gauges in
different sections, and some sections have changed gauges
(sometimes several times back and forth) depending on perceived economic and
operational requirements.
However, maintaining multiple gauges leads to inefficiencies at transshipment
points, etc.,
so in recent years there's been a push to convert all main routes and regional
networks on IR to a single gauge, viz., broad gauge.
This has been labelled 'Project Unigauge'.
